Almost 80 students from across the university, mainly from IT, Computer Science, and Business disciplines, participated in the practical experience organised by AI for Decision Excellence (AIDX) Lab, which was delivered through an industry collaboration with training provider TechSkills Institute.

It was also a career launch pad for two 51³Ô¹Ï students who were each offered a $3000 TechSkills internship opportunity.

“What stood out was the energy in the room. Students were not passive observers, they were asking smart questions, solving industry-style problems, and getting a real taste of what today’s IT workplaces demand,” said 51³Ô¹Ï Associate Professor Walayat Hussain, Director of the AIDX Lab and session coordinator.

The boot camp was an invaluable opportunity for the students to bridge the gap between academic learning and industry practice.

One student summed up the value of the experience: “It brought IT to life and helped me see where my studies could take me.”

Through live demonstrations and hands-on activities, students engaged with helpdesk ticketing systems, ticket lifecycle management, Entra ID and Office 365, user onboarding and offboarding, network equipment demonstrations, RMM/MAM, software deployment, device management, resume preparation and interview skills.

“It provided exposure to real IT environments, workplace tools, professional workflows, and the expectations they are likely to encounter in their future careers,” Associate Professor Hussain said.

The event also reflected the value of strong industry partnerships in supporting student success.
