Dr Tina Daniel specialises in understanding the affordances, constraints and barriers to early reading instruction. She has taught first and second language and literacy in primary, secondary and tertiary levels in rural and urban settings in the United States and Australia. Recipient of an Australian Research Council Scholarship, Dr Daniel’s doctoral research focussed on teacher perspectives of their practice of early reading instruction and the social-discursive, material-economic, and socio-political factors that enable and constrain it. Dr Daniel’s current research interests include the social justice implications of Australian government policy on early reading instruction and the effects on reading achievement.
